Ive seen some confusion on HACs...

a Heavy Assault Cruiser is easily 3-5 times more powerful than a Tech 1 cruiser especially if it has tech 2 weapons which are better than even the best named weapon (i.e. Gauss Railguns)

for example this is the HAC i fly and the only one i really have the skills to use effectivly...

http://www.eve-online.com/itemdatabase/ships/heavyassaultships/amarr/12003.asp

when you see one it doesnt look too scary but take a look at the skills it requires...

Primary Skill Requirments
Amarr Cruiser V
Spaceship Command III
Amarr Frigate IV
Spaceship Command I
Secondary Skill Requirments
Heavy Assault Ships I
Assault Ships IV
Spaceship Command III
Engineering V
Mechanic V
Weapon Upgrades V
Gunnery II
Spaceship Command V

and that doesnt even tell the full story of what you need... to even get the assault ships skill requires Frigate V so Amarr frigate V in this case is required, and to use it effectivly requires the ability to use tech 2 turrets which require in this case Small Energy Weapons V and then Medium Energy Weapons V...

that is why the HACs are buttwhooping you guys right now, to take one out i suggest warp scrambling and webbing it with at least 2 frigates and then sending as many cruisers as you can muster at it... even the best HAC cant withstand 5-6 cruisers pounding on it with support... even if you lose a few cruisers keep in mind the ship you killed is probably worth 80-120 mil ISK.

when we came across that one hac i didn't really expect all of us to live through it, but man with all of us firing on it for more or less a minute, his shields didn't go decrease past about 95%

after noticing that, it wasn't long until i got the fuck out of there

a BC cant beat an HAC pretty much ever.... sure if you know certain things it can be done but that requires some thinking....

for instance the Deimios which is based on the Thorax is close range... a frigate webbing the HAC at close range (several would be better) he is largly made harmless... shoot him at your leisure... the Cerrebrus on the other hand or Eagle are VERY VERY long range...

keep in mind concentrated fire can eat HACs... also most are armor tanked so that shield thing sounds weird, however what HAC was that? a Cerebrus and Eagle maybe those are the ones based of the Caracal and Moa.

keep your optimal ranges and weapon strength in mind.

the thing the hac does have going for it is higher resistance in its armour and shield. Still thought emp takes out shield fast and then explosive/thermal for armour

Holy shit, I would think so...I just loaded the HAC of my race into the char mangager and it would take 58 days to train up to it. TWO FREAKING MONTHS!!

It better woop some major ass.

Edit-For comparison a battleship would take 11 days.

HACs are kind of a ego ship... a BS can often do the job better and a BS can be insured... HACs cant be insured and while they are faster lack some of the raw power of the BS...

Why can't HACs be insured?

HACs cant be insured because of supply and demand on the ships....

it only costs about 25 mil to make a HAC, they then sell for 80-110 mil, insurance covers to something like 30 mil but with tech 2 prices always go funky.

cool, so blowing up HACS really pisses people off then

any tech 2 ship lost is a complete loss...

that Tech 2 wolf we blew up in the Teedub gatecamp of course wasnt insured and the guy easily lost 30 million ISK in that exchange.
