Got into an argument with a co-worker (literally a tree hugging hippy) who started trying to say that there wasn't anything to the emails, that this is a giant witch hunt (heh) and that there was no classified information stored, and even if their was, it wasn't very important and who cares because vagina.

It's not uncommon for workers with access to classified material to mishandle it, and by far the bulk of those cases don't attract the attention of federal prosecutors.

But when the Justice Department does pursue a case, it often relies on a statute that bars the unlawful removal and retention of classified documents. That low-level charge, meant for cases in which defendants improperly hold onto information that they know to be classified, carries a fine and maximum yearlong prison sentence and is reserved for people who have "really, really screwed up," Vladeck said.

Other, more serious laws make it a crime to knowingly disclose classified information to someone not authorized to receive it, and threaten punishment for anyone who through "gross negligence" allows national defense information to be removed from its proper place of custody.

what I would raise is

a) why did Hillary go through so much effort NOT to give them "yoga/wedding" emails - and why was she even allowed to filter what emails she provided considering she mixed these emails
b) why did Hillary's aides bleachbit her server
c) why did Hillary, from the outset, decide to break every rule regarding State Department email conduct

There is no direct evidence of criminality beyond the legality of the server/classified info handling, but there is massive amounts of evidence of an attempt to cover something up. Why would anyone presume that the reasons are benign?

if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... it's probably a conspiracy to hide evidence of major crimes
