U.S. health care system: Most expensive least effective

You just said that people in other countries aren't getting fatter because of their higher food standards.

Which is it?

Has there been talk of managing it at the state level instead of federal?

The states are worse than the fed in terms of budgeting but it would still be much less of a clusterfuck.

Are there words there that I'm not seeing? I dont' see "non-amerians are not fat" anywhere in there.

I agree all countries (not african nations[lol rasis]) are getting fat because of wealth and free trade access to more food choices. An excess in food choices can lead to larger waist lines and I'm just pointing out that it's not always fast food to blame. It may be the case here in America because of our poor meat and dairy quality but those poor products are not to blame in other countries.

The article I quoted points out that simply switching a diet to a different type of food, irregardless of quality, can lead to much larger waist lines. But with preventative care and regular checkups a large waist line does not mean that person is unhealthy. If more people in the United States were able to see a doctor and were told "if you keep eating that shit you'll die" they are more likely to not eat it and not be a burden on all of us when they have 7 heart attacks and develop diabetes later in life.

So put me down in the "universal healthcare" camp because given the choice people might try to be healthier if they are educated.

i have nothing of value to add, but i absolutely hate when people use that (incorrect) word.

There is a rather large upside to state level experimentation. It only affects that state if it fails, but if it succeeds other states will follow. The problem is, you would have to get the federal government out of the way for that to take place.

Hah. I never knew that. I guess now that I look at it there are many words with double negative prefix and suffix that I use... debone, unravel. etc...

I am now blinking and breathing manually.

how exactly is the health care system responsible for people who eat fast food every day and never exercise

people who can afford it and live generally healthy lives can expect to live as long as their eurotrash counterparts

Why do so many people come into this thread and say "yeah well maybe it has to do with Americans being fat and not exercising?" or something else like that? And then they leave because they think they've somehow made a point when highlighting a certain possible explanation. If you're going to use this sort of reasoning, come up with some statistics backing your possibility up. I mean seriously, you guys do realize that there are fat, lazy people in Europe too right?

fartius you can't honestly believe that obesity problems are even of the same order of magnitude in the US and in europe

i mean fuck, you've spent time in europe, you know this

the lifestyles and infrastructures are completely different

update
here are the 2 main arguments so far:

1-americans are too incompetent to be able to manage universal healthcare like any other civilized country
2-OH NO SOCIALISM THEY TAKES MY MONEY AND FREEDOM!
3-the u.s. covers too big of an area to be able to implement universal care

It doesn't matter. I don't believe that obesity is such a large problem in Europe as here. But you can't just conclude that since there is a higher percentage of obese people in the US than in [insert European country] that that alone explains any difference in life expectancy. Just because a certain explanation seems feasible when you think about it for a total of about 17 seconds doesn't mean that it's actually way more fucking complicated situation where your explanation actually is completely incorrect...I mean dude aren't you a scientist?

3-the u.s. has too much land to be able to implement universal care

You are a fucking moron. Yeah socialize medicine thats the ONLY way. You think Canada is right? Go check it out and find out why people die in line waiting for surgery or come to the US to mooch off OUR healthcare system because of it.
