your argument is that since it is an amendment it can be changed? Those of us who paid attention in civics class already knew that. Your argument about times changing is missing the point. A country that rebelled against a monarchy could only do so because citizens were armed. Being formed on the heels of a revolution, this country knew that handing over absolute power to the government would only result in being ruled like when they were under George.

The fact is, civilians have a better chance of helping an officer out in a critical time of need as opposed to an officer helping a civilian when the shit hits the fan.
