I bought a new mattress from Ikea - one that has memory foam. I see some people complaining that memory foam mattresses make you hot....which is kind of funny because i bought this one due to the fact it said something like 'keeps you cool by moving the heat away from your body' in the store display.
I had never slept on a memory foam mattress before so didn't know what to expect......i was not ready for the smell - i guess they call it 'off-gassing' - this thing has stunk up my entire apartment. smells like a combination of paint thinner and mildew. apparently you are supposed to let it air out 1-2 days before sleeping on it....good thing i had them haul away my old mattress when they brought the new one....so i've been inhaling these fumes for the past 2 nights.....don't seem to be having any issues so far.
and i haven't been sweating or anything so thats good...but its also winter time so maybe that will change in the summer..hope not.
anyway, anyone else have one of these and did you have the smell problem? was wondering how long the smell will linger around.....reading on the web it seems like people say anywhere from 2 days to 1 month. good lord.
