Not sure if it's that people don't care, it's that they are too ignorant to even see what's happening around them. People are content to merely obtain the latest fad in the global psyche, theres a general sense that people don't care about character anymore. I know very few people who I would consider 'good' people.

I call that being self-centered and extreme selfishness. The failure to realize anything going on that does not revolve around you. It's the ME ME ME syndrome.

It's the opposite of selfishness, it's the ability to see the world around you and not be introverted and self-important. That was my point if it didn't come across like that.

I do agree the thing we lost, recently, is the pusification of the US. Soccer moms went beserk and basically dumbed down everything. Gym sucks now, high school sports, almost all of them, require like fucking 100 different kinds of pads.

Getting the shit kicked out of you is part of growing up and being a kid.

He was merely suggesting that the paradigm shift in terms of the role of government has caused this "self-entitled" attitude. (read: welfare states are to blame). Europe has no shortage of welfare states..thats for damn sure.
 
We've lost our ability to delay gratification. On the other hand, we've got porn and the internet. I think you'll agree it generally evens out.

Blame the media. Every time you watch the news it's "stay tuned and we will tell you just why X might be raping you and your family. After these commercials".
People now fear everything. Salt, cars, CO2, too much sunlight, too much exercise, drugs are bad but alcohol is a drug, too little exercise, anorexia, obesity, immigrants and each other.
It just seems that people are getting so many mixed signals that they are told to walk left and then suddenly turn 180. New studies show this, and that and more of this. Then a month later, they were wrong. Continue for ever.

I think people just don't know what to believe or do anymore.

A woman i know (i work in a pharmacy) buys products for constipation..but she doesnt drink fluids the entire day. She barely drinks any water or anything she tells me. So she buys products to help liquify her crap. That just doesn't make sense. Drink, i tell her. No, she doesn't like to. You'll save money and have less problems like constipation and dehydration just by drinking a few glasses of water a day. How hard is that?
Some people walk in and tell me how this and that and this is great for your health, but they are over weight. Pills don't equate to health. Controlling your sodium doesn't mean shit if you never do exercise and weigh a metric fuck ton.
I notice this more with women and older people (both women and men).

i'd say that it's mostly due to people who'd rather let the country be ruined by the unhindered ethos of corporate america than allow the institutionalization of gay marriage
