that's pretty much what i thought when i saw dimmu borgir last year. great band..but boring as fuck live.

I don't think about the sound quality, live vs studio; it's more about the live version being longer, the band having fun onstage and it generally being a better performance than a clean, calculated studio cut.

live performances are the ones that go down in history, not studio cuts. you cant capture the improv of Hendrix on a CD, or the clean , true sound of SRV. For example the band 'and you will know us by the trail of dead', they alternate instruments during their live show, so one song you've got the guy drumming, then hes singing and playing guitar on the next. Its amazing to see live. Hence live shows are ALWAYS better than just listening to an album.
