who has a better computer than me now

E6400
3GB RAM
8800GTS 320MB

Gonna be springing for a Penryn and an 9800GT in a few months.
Give the old stuff to my mom so she can play Oblivion.

XP and the programs themselves plot usage schedules for the cores.
But you can set a program to prefer a CPU.

so how do you tell one program to use one core and another to... use another

or does XP do it automatically

why are you hung up on this

you can't tell programs which core to use, they just use it as needed, and most of the time the dual core isn't doing much for you, it's more CPU intensive stuff like burning a DVD that will have a difference, like with an old single core you'd burn and your computer would grind to a halt, now you'll have resources to burn with essentially one CPU and work with the other (it doesn't actually work that way, but that's the idea)

im not hung up on it i'm just wondering. like i said i didn't buy a dual core because i needed it, i bought it because it was a good chip for a good price and everything is at least dual now.

is there any benefit to setting affinities for anything or is it better to just leave it alone
