I'm tipping that the seasonal flu will be pretty quiet this year though.

No movement of people means we probably won't even see it in the Southern Hemisphere this winter :sunny:

That's about 300,000 lives saved worldwide, so it will all even out
 
Notice all these famous people suddenly got it, but every one of them just got mild symptoms, almost undetectable really. All seem to have gotten over it faster than a common cold, with even less symptoms.

In fact as if they didn't have it at all and it was all for the media to show how this 'deadly and dangerous' pandemic can affect anyone, so stay home and don't pop your head out

Crunch the numbers yourself. Use something other than Google and you'll get a handful of unbiased stats to sift through.

The mortality rate is somewhere around 5% right now (3.4% per WHO). Compare to seasonal flu at 0.1 to 0.2% (vaccines help significantly with this number). But I think we're starting to peak.

The infection rate is only slightly higher at 1.5 (low estimate) to 3.5% (high estimate) compared to seasonal flu @ 1.2% (2019-20 flu season) but still less than the 2009 SARS outbreak @ 3.0%.

65-84 is still the most vulnerable age group by far and most of that demographic is retired.

So yeah, generally I don't think the global response/shutdown is proportional given what we know but maybe it will allow us to recover faster on the downswing. If we're lucky we should start to see by the end of April.
