What the hell are those tags on the left side of the forum listings

They look like army patches.

I see green ones, three green ones laid on top of each other, Red ones, Red ones with a yellow dot, and three red ones on top of each other
 
Red are threads that have been there some amount of time, not sure how long that is. Green is new threads since you have been there. Green with yellow is threads you have posted in with new posts. Red with yellow is threads you posted in with no new posts... How can you not know this after all the time you have been here Brock?
 
Quick lesson for the newbies and idiots.

Green = New Posts from up to 3-4 (I dont know the exact time) hours ago that you haven't read.

Red = No new posts or older than above time.

Yellow Dot = You have posted in that thread.
