What takes off, but never leaves?

It doesn't. A kite needs tension in the string to keep a correct angle into the wind. This provides lift and stability.

Let go of the string and it just hits the deck, try it

Large trees also bad around kites, not just because they catch and eat them, but they create wind turbulence and block the low level stuff that you need for a stable take off.


I'm a bit of a kite fan :ralf:

but the riddle says it NEVER leaves. i've seen kites break free and take off never to be seen again. so some do leave. :shrug:
