Thief: Next Gen vs. Current Gen Graphics Comparison

Uhh it seems common sense that a game designed for older consoles isnt going to all of a sudden have awesome graphics when played on newer machines.

So PC version is like a higher resolution version of PS4. Perfect and best.

Xbox One looks too damn dark, wtf?

the abnormal constrast of the xbox one makes it seem better to me imo
at least for this game where the darkness is key, it looks like the ps4 and pc light up areas that shouldn't be but i haven't played the game so that could be completely wrong

I somewhat agree. I still think the xbone version is a little too dark, but the other versions just look washed out for a game that is about using darkness to your advantage, moving from shadow to shadow, dousing candles to remain undetected and so on.

I have the PC version and at the default brightness it just didn't look good to me so I had to turn it down a little.

If you've just bought a next-gen console, this Thief reboot is likely not your best choice for showing off its strengths. Visually, the PS4 should be the front-runner given its 1080p presentation, but through the virtues of effective anti-aliasing, the 900p frame-buffer used on Xbox One holds its own in practice. However, the PS4's weaker texture filtering does factor into the comparison more visibly, with assets appearing blurrier than they should at a distance, and asset pop-in proving slightly more evident. Given that all other settings are a match between next-gen platforms, the Xbox One release - surprisingly - stacks up favourable against a maxed-out PC playthrough.
All in all, it's hard not to be disappointed on a technical level with Thief. It's often our refrain, but in this case we'd strongly urge opting for the PC release if it's an option. If you're committed to buying for one next-gen platform or another, the superior texture filtering on Xbox One means it carries itself slightly better in the visual stakes - but frame-pacing aside, for the most part all three versions match up very closely indeed.

Who cares about the graphics, the game looks terrible for plenty of other reasons.

Dont listen to the reviewers. ive been having a blast with this game and so have a lot of other people.

All the points made in reviews are due to the "slowness" of the game. Its meant to be a slow game, its a stealth game ffs.

Hah, they're trying so hard to shill the (slightly) inferior XBO. The review should just read "Both consoles make compromises, stick with PC".

I can't tell the difference with stuff like this. It just looks like each version has different lighting effects.

Visually there just seems to be texture resolution, shadow, and effects differences.

Now what about the performance data? :p

Same here. I bet it is hard to match monitor verses TV settings for true fair comparison.

This vid makes the Xbox One look the worse

hey we found a game that looks p similar on all machines so let's make a video showing it so that dumbasses can post it all over the internet and talk about how much next gen consoles are a waste of money huehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehue

Plays like shit, graphics aren't going to save that.
All hail to dishonored. The real Thief 4.
