[Tech] Help me build a new computer

I'm looking to see whats on the up and up for a mild game computer. I have an lolmac that I will continue to use to impress women, however I want something with a fancy new graphics card so I can break a sweat playing video games with my pals.

I don't know what's good, and what's best bang for the buck. I don't want to get top-of-the-line and I don't want to get something that's been obsolete for a year.

Need to know what's what for CPU, mobo, and graphics... everything else I can figure out. I think quad core would be neat but I don't know if games these days even utilizes it so if that's not necessary a dual core would suffice.

I'm going to be hooking this up to my TV so it needs to be fancy at high settings & 1080p.
