Sonic Wall just blocked TW

Sonic wall finally got around to blocking TW.com under its dubious "web communications" category. What a bullshit category by the way - almost every site out there nowadays has a forum or comment system.

Anyway I'm bummed cause browsing and typing on a blackberry isn't fun at work :(
 
lets think of some easy ways around this:
-web proxy
-vpn to your home
-using your BB as a modem with your work PC
 
Yea it's a content filter that categorizes most sites intoabout 45. Possible categories. You can choose to block certain categories to an entire company. TW just got nailed globally with the web comm one :(

when you run the network you dont have to worry about keeping the plebs happy and dont have to deal with any of their rules. i laugh in the face of people who do not run the network at work, it must suck knowing that people like bofo are sitting at their desks jerking off with packet sniffer's trying to get everyone fired.

how again is a vpn risky from your work to your house? what would the IT guy "see" but encrypted data going to some random ip out on the internet. If you were surfing TW till you just got rocked by the sonicwall i doubt your IT guy has any care wtf you are doing.
 
He's actually picky at looks pretty closely for anything suspicious. It's cuz idiots who worked here before routinely caused security concerns sadly.
 
all you need is a home PC and the ability to NAT through your home firewall for a real basic PPTP vpn, most other types require a bit higher end router to terminate the VPN connection.
 
Whip up a nice Powerpoint presentation with some charts and graphs about why TribalWar.com/forums access is absolutely necessary for your productivity then present it to your boss.

The other upside of this is that the boss is going to remember him as a standout worker because he used powerpoint.

The downside is that every time someone uses powerpoint, the terrorists win.
