Yup, had a stupid client call Gateway support because her mouse wasn't working instead of calling me. They ended up having her run the recovery CD and killing her drive when her mouse just needed batteries.

even if i was told that it didnt format D:, i wouldnt take the risk. I still backed up all of this guys files, just to find out that it didnt format D: anyways. But better safe than sorry.

Yep, if your D: is a seperate piece of hardware, just unplug it until your done with the reformat and the OS is running normally again. If it's the same drive, it's best to plug it into your other computer or a friend's computer and save whatever you want onto the other system's disk. Then you can re-grab it either by networking or swapping drives. The easiest way is just to network two systems and do some file sharing between them to save you data on the other system and recover it later.
