It's kind of difficult to find a good one that introduces someone to the fluff without overwhelming them. Please help.

whatever u may think about rich, i'm sure he has got better things to do at 11:20pm on nye than answer this thread

what i mean is, check for him on irc

emp of man exist in many form for millenia on proto earth thing
warhammer fantasy exist
then in the 21st century or something Emp decides to stop trying to rule humans from the shadows and crowns himself boss of humans
he destroy religions, makes tech awesome, and begins creating his babies
his babies get stoled by CHAOS GODS and sent across galaxy because sending them across universe is too hard :(
eventually Emp creates try hard marines out of his dna and terrible terrible boot camps on humans and uses them to take over planets
as he takes over planets in GREAT CRUSADE he finds his babies and makes them CHAPTER HEADS of his marines
Horus is his favorite son even though he is found late in the game
Horus is corrupted by CHAOS GODS and maybe some OTHER CHAPTER HEADS and leads a REBELLION against his DAD
Half the chapters go to CHAOS. EMP kills his favorite son Horus after being mortally wounded and the GOLDEN THROWN is utilized not as a beacon of web ways but as his life support. HE becomes ZOMBIE GOD. After 10 thousand years no one remembers how to build COOL STUFF and tech becomes religion, in huge smack to emp's memory. Some say if you let emp die, he becomes fabled STAR CHILD and will come back and destroy CHAOS for good.

more or less

orks discovered space travel when mork trick his brother gork to throw his axe as hard as possible at distant star in sky after sneakily tying axe to gork's ankle. gork throw axe so hard it fling him into space

true story

great toad ones create orks to combate NECRONS who are SCURGE OF UNIVERSE before emp was born 40 thousand years ago
NECRONS are retconned worshipers of the great deceiver or devourer or something, one of the ctan that broke the great toad ones and ruined the galaxy. he lives in a sun now.
the toad dudes made elves and eldar and even me and you :sunny:

orks have DNA implants to let them make shit without knowing shit
and if they believe in something hard enough, its true
orks truly are the heirs to the galaxy god bless them plant creatures

are there any books that have some of the gods as characters?

or focus on chaos characters in fighting with each other / against man kind?

i really liked abnetts stuff

yo tom

rich informed me recently that you think marxism is essentially the same as national socialism

are you one of them?

i've lost all hope in Whites and our supreme leader

Ben Counter soul drinkers series has lots of what you want

he isn't as good a writer as abnett (but then WHO IS), but i remember kinda digging that particular series.

if you haven't read all of abnett's other 40k books you should read those instead though:

Eisenhorn books, Ravenor books, Pariah, Ghosts books + Double Eagle + Titanicus, Brothers of the Snake, Horus Rising, Legion, Know No Fear...those are the must reads, he has done a few other bits and pieces too, including a non-40k generic sci-fi novel called Embedded which is decent

you should do legion first and then pariah imo.

legion is like book 7 of the horus heresy series but it's pretty much fine to read it out of sequence

and it has some kind of bearing on Pariah, which is the first book in the Bequin series...following on from Eisenhorn/Ravenor

ya

And prospero burns which is my fav abnett wh40k book tied w traitor general (well discounting Eisenhorn/rav books which are in a class that transcends warhammer fluff stuff).
