Despite party affiliations, he is not crazy. He always came in 2nd best after Filmon (previous MB premier, a tory), but Filmon blew it on the flood in 1997, and Doer has been the favorite ever since. Depending on your point of view, MB has no population growth, and bleeds students because of his policies, or we have virtually no recession and continuing growth from skilled immigrants because of his policies. Or you don't care, because MB is a stagnant province - no booms or busts, just steady as she goes.
 
what's the point of ambassadors when you have secretary of state?
