New Mobo?

Ok, so my comp wont post anything, not even bios. All the fans and drives spin, so i assume everything has power, just nothing shows up on the screen. I swapped video cards, and nothing changed, so i assume that it's something w/ the mobo.

This will be the first non-drive part of a computer ive ever needed to replace so i figured id ask for help before diving in.

How easy will it be to install and setup a new mobo? Should i look for the same exact model or will any do?

well first of all.....can we see some specs and then we can properly deduce if it really is your motherboard or not because it really would be a shame to buy a brand new motherboard that still doesn't work. Second of all. Installing a motherboard is very easy. The hardest part is setting it up so that all the LED's, USB's, and front ports on your case work correctly but its all in the manual. Just don't forget to put compound on your heatsink when you take it off the processor to switch them out. I know many people that have burt their very expensive processors that way.

p4 2.4ghz
gf ti46000 (agp), have also tried a voodoo3 agp.

on the Asus CD i have, it's listed as "Intel 850 series motherboards" however i cant find any manuals to list my exact model.

*bump*

After browsing the asus site it looks like i have a Socket 478, Intel 850E, either p4t533 or the p4t533-c.

I might just try to replace/upgrade the ram, cpu, and motherboard all at once, so what should i look for in a new mobo/cpu/ram combo? I figure that different mobo's support different types of ram and cpus, but will i have any compatability issues w/ my various drives and cards?

Also i have no idea what all this socket business is.

if you look for a processor, you will see that it says that it is also a certain socket type. The processor's socket type and FSB have to match that of the mobo or else it is not going to work. If I were you, I would upgrade to an AMD 64 processor of some kind, maybe a nice nforce 4 motherboard, and 512 to 1 Gig of pc3200 ram. Once you do all that, you should have no problems with any of your other components. Here are my recommendations because I am assuming that you are on a limited budget.

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-128-262&depa=1
Processor: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=19-103-486&DEPA=0
Ram: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=20-146-299&DEPA=0

That should do you very nicely and isn't really all that expensive.
