My coworker things all gravity is caused by the moon

the scary part is people like that are allowed to vote and have children.

I mean, imagine NGFM's parents.

this is how democracy fails, when the populace is too stupid to elect the candidates that would work in their best interests.

for example the conservative south benefits more from socialist policies than anyone, yet they vote republican which favors capitalist policy

Since it's nothing but tribal knowledge and not a reference tool by any stretch, why direct any intelligent person there?

I had a room-mate that believed gravity was caused by the earth's rotation. He backed up his argument by pointing out that a gyroscope resisted outside forces, and that was how we stuck to teh earth.

are you sure he's not getting tides and gravity mixed up?

i mean, i don't know how anyone could get those mixed up, but just saying.

How is it not a reference tool? Have you ever looked at the bottom of a wikipedia page?

Yes - name the authoritative source that oversees the operation?

If anyone can input or change an entry it is nothing but a source for people to deposit what they have heard.

Tribal Knowledge, indeed.

you're picking on wikipedia? really? that's like reason #2 on why the internet's awesome.. right after porn of course

EDIT: what's the 2nd dumbest thing your coworker has said?

Charlie Rose said he loves wikipedia and uses it whenever he comes upon a reference to something he isn't familiar with. If you ain't down with Charlie you ain't shit.

uhh... no thats not how wiki works, lol.

and if you're suggesting the head guy at wiki personally interferes with individual articles then i can say the same thing about any other source of information. generally there is zero motivation for an administrator of information to manipulate it unless he has some sort of personal agenda... and while this may be possible with political articles, why the fuck would an article on something like gravity, for example, be manipulated?

and if this were the case, this would be quickly detected by independent contributors who would likely bitch and cry about it to the blogosphere.

Tribal knowledge? What the fuck is TRIBAL knowledge? Do you mean TRIVIAL knowledge?

Edit: Tribal knowledge is any unwritten information that is known within a tribe but often unknown outside of it. Yep, you're dumb.
