Mr.Robot episode 9 questions (spoilers)

Watching this show we thought that mr.robot was an imaginary person due to always hanging around in the background. Until the episode when the Christian slater character smashed a keyboard and was talking directly to the others. So the parts where mr.robot is talking directly to people is it really Elliot??? Like with tyrell in the vehicle. Lil confused. I love this show.
 
It's the same thing as in Fight Club when Tyler talks to the group and the Edward Norton stands by in the back.

The parallels between FC and Mr. Robot are pretty direct, btw. Not only does it have the same mechanism for showing the main character and his imaginary friend, but it also has the "erase the debt and we all go back to zero" plot line and even used a version of that Pixies song in the most recent episode (if I'm not mistaken).

Not complaining, FC is great, and this is excellent television regardless.
