so you're saying you don't think a kid can watch a show where the guy cuts his arm off? that's ridiculous that is totally kid appropriate that could be useful knowledge at any time if your arm gets caught under a boulder or in a bear trap

A shame. I never got into manga much but always liked Berserk. The creator had some kind of deal where he was under no obligation of finishing it on time, so he was very slow and put a lot more effort into each panel than most artists would. One elephant in the room issue with manga in general is that the artist just never puts as much time or effort into it as western artists. This guy did.
It was instrumental in getting me into fighting as a teen. At the time, I had seen the group fighting but was uninterested. A friend wanted me to join with him. I just happened to buy Berserk for Dreamcast at the time and the satisfying swordplay made me want to try it, so that got everything started. I started watching the anime and reading the manga too.
