Is the word 'ridiculous' difficult to spell for people?

No kidding. Go to dictionary.com and look up a few words without obvious roots. Odds are you'll come across a few that were "believed to be derived from" other words, but the spellings changed over time (usually due to pronounciation changes).

I've often wondered the same thing in regards to the use of REDiculous.

I don't know why it's such a stumbling block for some.

Then again, I never understood why people used "turreNt," either.

Well... maybe there aren't that many words that end in 'et', but there are more words that end in 'ent'.
