Installing a new harddrive

Ok so I just bought a new harddrive, and i put all the ide cables on correctly windows xp sees the drive and does its installing stuff but it doesnt show up in my computer still only shows my original harddrive. Its just a second harddrive i bought for more space, I know im missing a step somewhere, but i cant figure it out.....

j00 need to add it/
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > storage > Disk management > Select your new disk > Initialize Disk.

Then right click it, and set it's properties.
