[HELP] Wireless networking

Ok my situation is im on cable modem, and i just bought a wireless networking kit for my pc and my parents laptob. At first i couldnt get my router to respond then i rebooted the modem now that works the only thing i cant get to work is the laptop to 'see' my computer says no network connection available, the network type is set to infrastructure, cant seem to figure it out.

Have you enabled the 'Zero Wireless Configuration' service?

I'm assuming your using WinXP here also.

What steps have you taken to troubleshoot this so far?
Is the wireless adapter being detected?
Can you see any wireless networks?
etc...

The more information you give us, the easier it is for us to troubleshoot your problem.
