Help Mac Gurus: Virus Question

So I'm trying to fix my roommates computer. His Startup Disk has 4.4mb left on it, so i tried to empty the trash, the entire screen went blank and then the trash came back full. This is where i figured he had a virus. So i need a free Online virus scanner for macintosh where i don't need to install anything.

Searching Google for this brought up stuff for Windows Virus Scanners.

How old is said Mac? Mine's having issues from being overloaded and 4 years old (and my mom had dropped it a lot when it was hers, something tells me that didn't help)

Start up off a CD that has a virus program installed. Macs are good that way, they're generally easy to fix...that is if you've created a boot disk first.

Norton is the best....but if the Mac is getting to be a few years old (not the system, the hardware) then tell him it's better if he invests in a new one

Boot from CD (or other alternate source), make more space on HD. 4.4 MB is very low, since I think it warns you about there being a lack of free space at 500 MB or so (in Mac OS X).

The chances of a virus on a Mac are pretty low.
