Hawaii residents, or people who have vacationed there

I'm heading to Hawaii somewhere between the days of the 6'th - 8'th and will be there for about two weeks. I'm going alone and on a budget. I was wondering if anyone had been and knew of some good places to stay for cheap.

Graduation present. I'm going to be in the South bay Cali for a week, then flying over to Hawaii.

the thing I may do when we go is rent a house. may not be really cheap, but priced pretty well, and definitely better experience, and sometimes better priced than a hotel.

i got food poisoning from the jolly roger, their fruit cup went to shit and so did i for 2 days. Boy was that fun.
