[Guns][Canada]M1 Garand?

Quick question for my largest known database for knowledge on the internet.

M1 Garand? Legal and attainable in Canada? and under what permit and type of weapon would that fall under? (prohibited, restricted etc).

All flaming aside anyone know?

Thanks in advance

I know nothing about the gun in question but I assume this may help:

Q. What are the different classes of firearms?

There are three classes of firearms: non-restricted, restricted and prohibited.

Non-restricted firearms are ordinary rifles and shotguns, other than those referred to below.

Restricted firearms include:

* handguns that are not prohibited;
* semi-automatic, centre-fire rifles and shotguns with a barrel shorter than 470 mm (about 18.5 inches);
* rifles and shotguns that can be fired when their overall length has been reduced by folding, telescoping or other means to less than 660 mm (about 26 inches); and
* firearms restricted by Criminal Code Regulations.

Prohibited firearms include:

* handguns with a barrel length of 105 mm (about 4.14 inches) or less and handguns that discharge .25 or .32 calibre ammunition, except for a few specific ones used in International Shooting Union competitions;
* rifles and shotguns that have been altered by sawing or other means so that their barrel length is less than 457 mm (about 18 inches) or their overall length is less than 660 mm (about 26 inches);
* full automatics;
* converted automatics, namely full automatics that have been altered so that they fire only one projectile when the trigger is squeezed; and
* firearms prohibited by Criminal Code Regulations.

and thanks that link does help but its pretty wordy.

That explains those school shootings.

Yea, a whole two shootings in the past, what, 6 years? How about the shootings in America? Oh, nevermind. Plus the guy that did the shootings in Montreal legally owned those guns after having to get two licenses with 21 checks on each of them plus had to have references.

That explains those school shootings.

You mean those odd and very freak school shootings that are few and far between compared to the US. Besides it isnt gun laws its crazy people like
Kimveer "trench" Gill, all his guns were registerd and obtained the proper way and he did it anyway. Its the people not the laws

[edit]beaten to it by one minute but the point remains, people not the laws.

owned?

NON-RESTRICTED FIREARMS

Non-restricted firearms are:
o shotguns and rifles which are not restricted or prohibited
o the M1 Garand and Lee Enfield rifles, which otherwise would be prohibited due to their large capacity clip or magazine.
o some military-appearance firearms (including some similar to the AR-15) which the bureaucrats haven't found out about yet

I bet it would fall under these:

* semi-automatic, centre-fire rifles and shotguns with a barrel shorter than 470 mm (about 18.5 inches);
* rifles and shotguns that can be fired when their overall length has been reduced by folding, telescoping or other means to less than 660 mm (about 26 inches);

edit - and this site: http://www.packing.org/state/all_of_canada/ will probably answer most of your questions.
