We already have solar panels that turn solar energy into electricity. Having a giant mirror would take up just as much space as having a giant array of solar panels.

There are also solar water heaters: Energy Savers: Solar Water Heaters

The main point that's misleading is the mirror only increases the energy density, not the actual energy.
