I've had the same problem and know what he's talking about.
It's a weird install thing that's hard to fix.
You have to change the driver to back to standard VGA, reboot, uninstall the old drivers if they are in the add/delete programs menu, then try installing your drivers again. I think I just kept uninstalling and re-installing until it finally worked. And yeah, the correct monitor driver needs to be there or it won't work. I went online and got the latest one. Try starting at standard VGA and see if you can get the correct monitor driver in there. Then try the vid card driver. If it doesn't work, go on the web site and get the latest drivers.
