damn, now I'm trying to think of the name of the story that came from - it's killing me
Basically there were these invisible grey alien type beings that crouch on everybody's shoulders and control their thoughts (pale riders). For some reason there was a dude who didn't have one and whenever he went outside people would notice and they would try to "Kill the clear" (meaning he was 'clear' of having a pale rider).
Have a feeling it was a short story by Stephen King but I can't find it.
