EPC Light in 2002 Jetta?

Anybody have any idea what this means? This light just came on in my girlfriend's car who is currently driving down I95 in NY.... followed shortly by the car completely stalling out in the middle of the road. Does anybody have any idea what the fucking EPC means? Is she gonna die a firey death? help!

EPC = Electronic Power Control = Powertrain fault somewhere in the engine or trans. Most commonly a MAF, Coilpack, Throttle body, or brake light switch (probably not brake light switch in this case)
