DSLR advice

I just got a Canon Rebel XT as a hand-me-down, and I need to figure out what lens I should get. Whats a good all purpose lens thats <$1k?

I have 0 experience with DSLR btw.

I'd go with a 28-135 or similar range for a single all purpose lens.

personally i'd rather have like an 18-55 and a 75-300. you can get both under $1k. If you're just starting out I would recommend getting the lenses in the 4-500 range, not a single $1k lens

Also, you'll probably want to get a tripod

dude if your budget is around 1k and you want a good lens go all out and get a keeper walking around lens.

the 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM canon or the 24-70mm (i think) f/2.8 USM canon.

if you want to spend around $500 i highly recommend the 17-50 (i think) tamron f/2.8

i was able to get a practically brand new 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM canon for $875 off my local craigslist and sell my tamron f/2.8 which i bought off amazon.com at 95% the price i bought it at

shot basically all those pictures with a rebel xti and either tamron 17-50 or canon 17-55mm

My friend absolutely loves his 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM. Sharp as a tack, fast and versatile. Can't ask for too much more. Personally I don't like anything telephoto unless it's for a specific job.

PS I had sex with a new girl today, Afternoon Delight style.

A Canon 5D with a few different lenses.. In order of how often I use them:

16-35mm f2.8L
50mm f1.4
24-105mm f4L
100mm f2.8 Macro
70-200mm f4L

Plus my Speedlite 430EX with a wireless ST-E2 remote flash trigger.

if you find one let me know, I can throw away like 4k in assorted gear.

closest ive found is the 18-200 VR nikon makes

canon is (i think?) coming out with one as well. but itl be like 1k instead of 600.

i like ur pics X. maybe take one pic of the pig?

i showed you a pic of the pig like 10 years ago.

you have almost the same setup as i do. i have the 50mm f/1.4, the 100mm f/2.8 macro, and also the 70-200mm f/4L.

im still considering investing in the ST-E2 remote flash trigger but i just bought a 580EXII this summer and i haven't used my camera stuff this whole summer :(

too busy studying for shit

on a side note, does anyone on TW use softboxes? I bought one about 6-7 months ago and dont really know hwo to use it
