With a pack of Marlboro 25's now running about $37 in Australia, It's more a matter of being too poor to smoke.

It's OK if u rich though

JFC - I seem to remember the argument for such heavy taxes was ultimately healthcare. Now, they just take that cig tax and offset migrant healthcare costs. That's my bet.

In my opinion every pack of cigs should come with a card that entitles you to free nicotine patches/gum and referral to a specialist Quit Doctor.

But nope, you get nothing. It's bullshit.

When I started I used to pay 85c a pack, nowadays if I bought them from a vending machine in a pub you would be up around $50. No wonder everyone is smoking ice instead.

wtf....$37 for a pack of cigarettes? So if you see someone smoking, you should go ahead and rob them as there is a pretty good chance they are loaded

Also grew up in the 60's/70's when you were issued a pack of cigarettes when you were born, but I've never smoked. Though since both my parents smoked nearly every waking minute in the house, in the car, in the doctor's office, etc. I am certain I've inhaled enough smoke to be considered a former smoker.

Hell, in the late 70's, early 80's there were nearly physical fights in my professional office when non-smokers objected to all the smokers lighting up with cigarettes, pipes and cigars in the middle of the office every day of every week.

Never really understood why someone would even start smoking. Its not like your body doesn't react poorly to it from the get go, its expensive, it really does make you stink and there is no way you can believe its good for you, so why start? Peer pressure... "F" off, who's the idiot?

Anyway, for those who do, please seriously consider stopping. My mother died way too early of lung cancer and my father from complications related to COPD (and there is nothing like watching a loved one slowly die while struggling to breathe).

Now, don't get me started on vaping...

I'm in the process of quiting currently. Its been rough, ive smoked everyday for 15 years. I was doing really well, but I relapsed couple days back and have been regressing. Been trying with patches, but I went straight to step 2 thinking I could just handle my biz. Will probably start over and go the full system and try an app tracker to visualize my progress.

I want a smoke right now but I'll get over it. I can vape everywhere. Vaping in Starbucks right now.

Smoked for 42 years quit 3 years ago but smell and taste are fucked. Sometimes the nose works and food tastes a little better but guessing I smoked for so long they will never "come back" :(

yuk vaping smells terrible, it should be banned anywhere smoking is banned

and you look even more stupid than a regular smoker

I pay about $85 (AUS) a week for a 50g pack of Port Royal Rum and Wine, a bag of extra-slim extra-long filters and a 5 pack of papers. Smoking here is expensive.

don't worry, ur chinese overlords love cheap smokes and will make sure australia is liberated from this tyranny

pack of smokes here in KY are $5-$6

i smoke a little but dont think im the addictive type. I bought a pack when I went camping and dirt biking last month but havent smoked since then and had bought a pack maybe 4-5 months before that?

they really smell bad. i work with smokers and it's tough when you're driving on a long trip and they want to stop every hour to take a smoke break and stink up the car.

a lot different when i go between CA and KY. In CA you get that idea that smokers are evil and dirty and people have a very hostile attitude to it. In KY it's pretty normal to see people outside on their porches with auto rollers and colt 40's and no one even thinks about it.
