well just got mediacom cable internet for $20 a month so i'm online in my new apartment

but i gotta plug it into the wall to get it to work, so what's the cheapest wireless router out there? google has all sorts of different products and prices

Cheap!=good. You get what you pay for. I'd check some reviews and then bite the bullet and spend a little extra on something that's not going to take a shit on you when the wireless connection gets a heavy load. I have two Buffalos running dd-wrt. Best networking purchase I've ever made. Unfortunately you can't buy Buffalo products in the States right now due to a lawsuit. Your next best bet is to get a linksys that you can install dd-wrt on.

BELKIN F5D7230-4 802.11g Wireless G Router - Retail $34.99 Will run dd-wrt

Don't buy a cheap linksys , belkin, or d-link.

Although I will say my WRT54G v1.0 still operates like a champ (running dd-wrt).

the belkin G is 34.99 at bestbuy...
I don't use it, but I've set one up, everything went really smooth and I haven't had any complaints....I guess it's that or dynex....lol...

i just grabbed a linksys wrt160N for sixty or so i think it was...

Would it be worth it to run DD-WRT on it?
