Cheapest way to start out

Doing the RAF things so I can level with my wife, and be able to play together. Starting a new account isn't cheap with all the expensions now...so what is the cheapest?

Online and stores seem to be:
Classic/BC Battle Chest - $50
Wrath of the Lich King - $55

$105 for a game I still have to pay month fees for :nuts:

So, is there a cheaper way? I was hoping direct from Blizzard, without DVDs, would be cheaper...but it isn't.
 
i saw the battle chest for $15 in a black friday ad (think it was Best Buy)

but yeah Battle Chest + WoTLK when you need it

Yeah, the RAF link won't work past 60. So you may as well buy vanilla and play that until 60. The only difference between that and picking up TBC is you without that you won't get to select BE/Draenei and you won't have access to JC'ing.
 
Ended up buying a Battlechest for $40. I'm Canadian, so it's supposed to be more (I mean, BC was $30). I'll wait to get Wotlk, not that I think it'll go down in price.
