I mostly watch HD channels, play XBOX 360, watch movies from time to time...

I don't know much about HD tvs.
Is the 120Hz technology worth it ?

Help me out TW.

I would never purchase anything made by Sharp. Their customer satisfaction stats speak for themselves.

I don't know what you have against Samsung, but if you've decided it's going to be one of those that you posted, I'd go with the Sony.

The Sony comes with a free root kit in every box. Sharp is just shit, Toshiba likes to sell silent propeller technology to our enemies. Buy a Samsung.

I have that Sony, preferred it over the Samsung.

Although I do have a Samsung TOC 19" WS for my desktop, not bad...

my samsung ln46a530a is amazing. bought it for $1399 last Augest (Canadian), couldn't be happier

I told my dad to wait for oled, and once they are reasonable (3+ years) I'll put this sammy in my bedroom and upgrade.

Like I said, I dont know much about LCD tvs, but I have 2 friends that own Sharp 1080p 37" and it looks great ! But your starting to make me go towards a Samsung or a Sony ....

Is the 120Hz worth it ? And can I turn off the technology when watching movies ?

I work at Best Buy. Samsung is definitely the best LCD manufacturer out there. They actually make a lot of Sony's panels. They are consistently in the top 2 or 3 of consumer reports. 120hz helps a lot with panning shots, sports, and fast motion images like video games or action. There are actually 240hz TV's out now.

I'd recommend a Samsung A650 model or above...

Amazon.com: Customer Discussions: Does 120 hz matter

TV programs are 30 frames per second (fps). That means a 60Hz display would show each frame twice. 60 fps video would have each frame shown once. However, movies are done in 24fps. 24 doesn't go into 60 evenly. To display this, the TV will either show one frame twice and the next three time. An alternative to this is to show one frame twice, then show one frame of the mixture of the first and second frame, and then the second frame twice. 120Hz has the advantage that 30fps, 60fps, and 24fps are all evenly divisible. 30=4, 60=2, and 24=5. This eliminates all the weirdness with 24fps video.
still confused? in short: less processing = better video.

I have a 52" 120hz Toshiba and love it. It had a better picture than the Sony so I went with it and couldn't be happier, I'd go into an electronics shop so you can see them side by side.

120hz ruins movies, but for sports/general hd tv watching, its so good, it'll make looking outside your irl window look unappealing.
