Britas... the black crap

I don’t know if any of you Brita users have noticed the black shit that accumulates in the top part of the jug. After a couple years of use (yes I change the filter as I should) there is a lot of pepper sized black shit. I’m just curious if anyone else knows what this is and if it’s something to worry about…

Yes this is a bad thread but I’m just curious.
 
yes, it comes out of the filter

as far as I've seen it normally doesn't come out much unless the filter is old (it also wont hurt you)
 
Charcoal is also what they make you eat if you swallowed poison. Then you have to throw it up.

So yeah, someone poisoned themself then threw up in your filter.
 
Yeah it's the charcoal in the filter.

do you presoak the filters before you put them into the jug?

ok i was woried cause the odd time i see it in the bottom of my glass. Thanks alot for letting me know its just puke

It will come out a bit at first when you initially start using it...then only again when it gets really old.


You are suppose to soak it for 30 minutes or run a couple pitchers through before you start using it--to flush out the loose peices.
 
yeah i follow the directions. i have had this filter for 2 months now. i use anyhwhere from 2-4 refills aday.
