In 2 years, he will stop being the "chief software architect" etc and will remain "only" as chairman and advisor. He wants more time to devote to things like global education and health via B&M Gates Foundation.

Good for him. We need more full-time philanthropists -- especially those as effective as Bill

he's got the money to have an affect on the future. he is important. he's gotten my respect by his charity, moreso his wife but, he's a bright enough guy to marry her, so it works.

There is all truth in this thread, however, the past is the past, would you rather he sit in his tower on high and just save his fortune, or give some back to the people Wether or not he got his money in an evil way (I believe he did also) doesn't change what he can or can't do with it now.

I'd rather have the latter, him actually doing something with his money rather than nothing. Maybe he'll realize the error of his past ways and give full support to Ubuntu and other open source projects Wishful thinking.
