Baadasss

Good movie. By Mario Van Peebles about his father, who made Sweet Sweetback's Baadasss Song back in 1970. It was made indepently and almost single handedly kicked off the blaxploitation (now known in PC circles as 'Soul Cinema') genre.

The movie retells the entire production from start to finish and shows the struggle that Melvin Van Peebles went through to get it made. It's shown with a filter effect practically through the entire movie to give it an early 70's indie feel. The colors and the shots are all washed out like it was shot on cheap, grainy stock.

I have a love for old blaxploitation movies and it's something I found to be really interesting. Good movie. If it's playing near you, see it.

yea i'm gonna buy this from amazon... never seen it before.

edit- i'm gonna buy the 70s version

It's in a really limited release, I guess. Will probably be on DVD in a few months.

The original Sweetback movie is awesome!
