so i'm really quite far through the main story, and I've really not enjoyed this much at all. Three rants/things that seem ridiculously contrived:
1) Why the fuck is Connor so fucking angry with Achilles? I get it, he's got daddy issues, but especially after Achilles saves him from being hanged you'd think there'd be a little gratitude there. Or, you know, after training him to be an assassin which has granted him the ability to achieve most of his goals...from a writing perspective, it just doesn't make sense, it always feels awkward and stupid. Connor learned the ways of the assassins but he can't control his temper ? Only he can control it when it comes to...
2) Connor just decides to work on a mission with this father? Really? This was a real "jump the shark" moment for me. Oh, hey, i know we're kind of mortal enemies, but we both want that guy dead, so let's spend like 6 months together not killing each other and meeting up in locations so we can accomplish this goal, nevermind that we're probably both quite capable of accomplishing this task on our own, especially Hatham, who apparently can walk right into any complex that would harbor the enemy anyway because he knows the password. Did he need Connor for any of this? How many times would Connor's life have been easier if he just neglected to save his father?
3) Charles Lee is confirmed time and again to be a problem to the revolutionaries, and in spite of knowing this, he's just going to pop up all over the place and be placed in a position to screw everything up.
4) Hey best Indian friend from my youth, I'm going to kill you because you pulled a knife on me. I know that it's completely irrational for you to pull a knife on me since we spent about an hour of actual game time proving to me how much of a pussy you are, but now you're grown up and apparently you're not going to listen to a word i say because Charles Lee who was involved in burning your village down once told you i was a bad guy, which you're definitely going to believe because you people all trust white people immensely.
5) Desmond's father rather ridiculously decides to go after the final energy source alone, in spite of hte fact that it's required a lot of luck and athe full team to get all of the others. Makes complete sense. Then he gets captured and brought to Abstergo, where instead of finding out where the others are from him, they just choose to ransom him for the apple of eden instead. Nevermind that they've got Animus of their own and have seen for themselves that that's a pretty gnarly weapon in the hands of an assassin, there can't be a problem here, right? Ok, let's accept that, so Desmond is of course going to go save him, so the plan is to just walk right into Abstergo and kill everyone, only they're clearly prepared for your arrival with ... bully sticks. And some people with really slow to load and fire guns. Who are going to attack in packs of 4, because just having 50 people smother the guy so you can take the apple just wouldn't be decent. Then they're going to let you get all the way to the safest location in the building and act like all of that previous shit didn't happen, just make the trade anyway, only oops you convinced everyone to blow their own brains out!
I could probably do this all day, the story is just littered with ridiculous shit, i find it incredibly disappointing. I know that the past stories have probably had a lot of this type of absurdity, but the amount of convenience in the story thus far, where they just take an easy way out to shortcut having any viable reason for the actions happening is really, really disappointing. They always play a bit fast and loose with the real history in these stories, which is fine, but when you're inventing contrived scenarios to make the missions make sense and move time, then you're just losing me.
