Anyone do a sleep study?

a friend of mine has done this many times, with no real answers. Shes been misdiagnosed more than 3 times, which really sucks.

she gets a good 3 hours of sleep if shes lucky each night, and has been this way since grade school.

p.s. loto

yeah basically I think they're a waste of fucking time. just do it if your doctor wants some kind of justification to prescribe you whatever you need.

hey rayn why didn't you go to the make a wish foundation when you were a cancer kid. my wish would be to get personally infected with hep c by pamela anderson.

Narcolepsy? That's ridiculous.

I think the whole entire thing is a sham. Doctors have YET to prove that this is really a valid illness.

After all, think about it: what are the chances, REALLY, that in this universe of ours there would be a malady that caused someone to just pass out -- completely asleep -- while in the middle of watching TV, paying bills, or god forbid just surfing TribalWa...........adffffffff...aamvvvvvvvvvvdmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...................................................................................................mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmamxxxxxxxxaaaxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxmmmmmmmmmmmmm...................................kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx///////////////////////////////////////////////mmmmmmmmmm///////////////////////////////////////////////////////vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I had a one night study done for apnea. No sedative, but a fucking lot of electrodes stuck all over you. Have to haul the monitor around like an IV drip if you need to take a leak.

Anyway, it wasn't a big deal. Negative on my test. Turns out I'm tired because I'm just a lazy fatass, which is cool.

You don't have to be overweight to have sleep apnea. Your doctor sounds like an idiot.

You're right, which is why I am getting checked for it as well. He said more than likely it's not apnea, but I have the anatomy that it could be an issue.

i have done many of them and they are fucking boring.

also, they give you a sleeping pill. since I was going for insomnia, doesn't that fucking ruin the point of the study? anyway, they found out I wake up ~100 of times a night (wake up as in come out of REM sleep) and after multiple studies the endocrinologist (for some reason they do these studies) said my problem was that I was depressed.

several months later while getting an MRI on a torn abdominal muscle it was discovered I have a tumor on my adrenal which was the most likely cause of my insomnia.

anyway, enjoy your study and your adderral.

Yes, they gave me a sleeping pill in case I can't fall asleep in an unfamiliar place. However, more than likely I will go in without taking it, because most of the time I can fall asleep just fine. And the results will be better I think.

My doc is a pulmonary specialist as well as a sleep specialist, so it's not just endocrinologists that do the studies.

I was under the impression they were wireless sensors. But I could be wrong.

any doctor who wants to get paid to run these tests and has the room/personnel to do it can be a 'sleep specialist'

some docs do nothing but that

No they got electrodes all over the body. I have insomnia too. I wanna do one but I don't feel comfortable with it either.

While it doesn't happen to me this way (I don't randomly pass out, I"m just excessively tired throughout the day and COULD fall asleep if I laid down or stopped moving around), I know people this has happened to. You could talk to them and then boom, they are out for a few minutes. It's not a sham. :) Though they don't know the cause yet, other than people with narcolepsy have abnormal REM sleep patterns.

Yeah, I knew the electrodes were all over the body. But they way it was described to me was that they were wireless (because I can move around without taking them off, which seems impossible if attached to wires with the monitor right by the bed). I'll find out soon enough.

also the MSLT test is what you would need, it would be much different than what I had. it sounds like more of a hassle, won't you have to go multiple times?

I thought I had narcolepsy. I talked to my doctor about it, and he thinks it's more than likely sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea has been a huge detriment to my quality of sleep, and now I'm passing out in the middle of the day because I'm too exhausted. I used to pass out at my desk at work even.

Luckily my sleep apnea is just obstructive, which means that I can do something about it. I don't have an insurance plan that will pay for me to wear one of those funny things in my mouth at night, but the alternative is to lose weight. So that's what I'm doing right now. I've lost 40lbs in the past month. :)
