A friend told me like 2 weeks ago that the actor who played gandalf died? Is this true cause i have searched the forums for "gandalf" and his real name but nothing came up about it.Just wondering if anyone can set me straight.

No, Mr. McKenna is not dead. However, the gentleman (his name escapes me just now) that played the head honcho in the Harry Potter books did die.
