Withholdings arent your returns its just how much gov is taking each month if they take more you owe less at end of year if they take less you owe more

Thats not your actual overall bill or deduction it just controls timing of your payments

There is a good chance in samuwell situation he earns more each paycheck because his withholdings are less which causes him to owe more at the end the year and also his mortgage deduction is less most likely etc

Id actually bet he owes more at end of year depending on his situation

That is an additional $150 per check that the government is not taxing from me that it was the previous month. No raise, no change to my withholdings or anything like that. My check just went up $150 per check.

sam, the withholding amount is a blunt instrument based off of your prorated income and how many exemptions you provided on your W-4. It doesn't account for wide swathes of the tax code, such as your CA state taxes no longer being deductible

because the SALTS write off kicks in at property tax deductions over 10k

which I know it is for most poor people living in poverty like Chaol in bay area

Mostly because the amount of my work went up as company confidence increased to extend themselves a bit on many projects that were outside the realm of my normal 40 hour weeks, due to Trumps promise of tax reforms and its effects on larger businesses.
