Child gambling has quadrupled in the UK thanks to loot boxes

I've never understood the needs who buy 2 win. Bullies push these kids into the electronic margins of society than the grown up salesmen bullies convince them to buy shit to finally be cool or in some cases be better than others.

People are fucking stupid. Looking at some microttansaction data a while ago it's not kids who are the biggest offenders but adults dropping 500+.

As with any issue affecting kids need good parents to tell kids why they are feeling compelled to buy this shit and not just pawning it off on the state or else the same issue will be had when they're blowing their student loans on this shit instead of banging sluts.
So I guess we should abolish the laws that prevent minors from playing in casinos, right? They should just know better?

Well the problem with that is the vast majority or non-gamers are completely clueless about what's going on in these games. Hell, most gamers are too dumb to admit lootboxes can lead to problem gambling.

The idea behind government regulation is to force these games to come with an 'Adults Only" rating due to their inclusion of gambling. That sends a much more clear and understandable message to the parents who can then tell their kids wtf to do with their money.

And kids today who develop characteristics of problem gambling suddenly stop playing these games when they become adults and no longer spend on these microtransactions?

Kids aside, you admit the large fault here is with adults..... are these the same adults who are expected to warn their kids away from doing the very thing they can't help themselves from doing?

Your critique of the whole situation is piss poor. I'd rather have regulation over this shit because it seems the populace is just too fucking dumb.

Who said this was a critique? I know Amadeus likes to jump the gun and lash out at those who go against his orthodoxy through misguided logical equivalencies and questions answering questions, so I'll respond to you.

Does banning kids from having guns preventing them from shooting up their schools? Does banning kids from drugs stop them from getting drugs? The populace is dumb and will leave gun safes unlocked so lets further regulate the right to bear arms to restricting parents from having guns. your capstone argument opens the door for making everything illegal.

You can superficially treat this and pretend you did some real good for the chilluns or get to the root cause. You admit most adults don't know what is going on with their kids in regards to technology - how many of us easily got around parental controls? How easy is it to say 'I am above the age of 13'? These kids will find ways to masquerade as adults through buying new accounts, paypal cards, and the like. I support businessmen taking from adults who want to feel good in the virtual world because they are losers in the real world because they'll push that money to other sectors of the economy to drive growth. This is capitalism in action. We all have frivolous expenditures but I argue against microtransactions as it's poor, as opposed to stuff like car guys. car guys buy manufactured parts directly supporting jobs, learn skills, etc. but in the end its for the same reason - to look cool and have fun. i got my shit too i aint no preacher

The only thing that will really stop this is parents teaching kids proper values that reward themselves for hardwork and guiding children away from the superficial and cosmetic in life. How many cringe photos come from the 'gamer' teen? Who here has had people PM them after games, stalking them? Had a college aged kid call me a nigger this past summer at a poker table when I took his last 200 bucks. Half the table was black and from the ghetto lol. People this detached from reality are a product of absentee parenting and any superficial rules and regulations to make the concerned citizens of the internet will be circumvented by a more nimble and tech savvy generation where 3 year olds are fucking around with app creation now. Simple sure, like my HTML 1.0 websites back in the day, but it's happening. I don't think any weak attempts by our parents stopped us when we really wanted something. If you want to look cool in the only place you're valued - these kids will find a way.

Don't pretend any major positive will occur from this and any self fellatio that occurs in the community will have any net positive. In fact some of these lessons that could be taught for 20 bucks on meaningless shit will just be delayed until it becomes amounts equal to full day, even full weeks worth of paychecks as adults.

The microtransaction movement is here as people have chosen to pay a la carte for the experience they want especially given two decades of price staganation for initial cost of entry, and I'm not here to stop the 1-3% of america but in a niche community like here 10-15% how to not blow their paychecks, but don't pretend directly regulating this will be beneficial for any meaningful amount of teens.

Tech moves faster than legislation and given all argumentation leads to an increasing nannystate instead of putting the onus on the parents, all I can say is that while I support this from a emotional standpoint, this is nothing more than an attempt to solve an amputated arm with a couple of spongebob bandaids. i would love to see a way this legislation could be proposed that holistically bans this form of gambling without outright making most forms of ingame transactions illegal, which will probably result in a greater move towards a gaming subscription based ecosystem sort of like with the xbox live shit. sucks to be a console gamer lol
