Hot Sauce Thread

There is a great YouTube video of celebrity interviews while eating increasingly hot hot sauce

First we feast

Where are you morons getting Kelvin units?

Heat in food is measured in Scoville units. Degrees Kelvin is the SI unit of temperature.

That's not strictly accurate. Capsaicin concentration is measured in Scoville. Heat (taste wise) in food may also come from other sources eg. mustard oils, horseradish, wasabi. I'm not sure if those oils have a rating scale.

Found an interesting article here with some info on different hot sauces (see at bottom for first bit of list):

The Scoville Heat Scale for Chilli Peppers and Hot Sauces from ChilliWorld. Compare relative heats all the way to Blair's 16 Million Reserve, pure capsaicin.

Does not talk about the two sauces I noted though did note the info about scotch bonnets in general.

With scorpion peppers, I have always found them milder except one sauce when one friend brought a bottle straight from Trinidad which was, 'fresh off the tree', hottest thing I ever tried.

Then again, fresh off the tree is always going to be hotter than what you get in a bottle normally...

Tried a ghost pepper once but it had been frozen so was not as hot as the fresh scorpion sauce. I am not a fan of those (the ghost peppers) cause unlike scotch bonnet and scorpion peppers it is pure heat in my view, no flavour at all. Scotch bonnet and scorpion both have heat AND flavour (and as noted, if you cook them in foods without piercing them they are much milder - plus you can rinse freeze and reuse so you get to use them multiple times for some good flavourful cooking). In my area scotch bonnet (both sauce and peppers are easy to find (they sell it at major stores all over Greater Toronto Area from Hamilton to Oshawa to Barrie), scorpion not so much.

Just went out and got some Cholula original just to try it. Actually it is quite good, has some nice flavour, much nicer than Frank's though not as spicy. Grace's Scotch Bonnet is still #1 in my book, though Cholula is quite good. The scotch bonnet definitely has much more heat than cholula, tabasco, and franks by far...

I put saves insanity sauce on a bunch of shit, but in tiny quantities cuz otherwise it renders the food un-edible

Welcome to the good life.

Cholula is my go to mild sauce. But this shit is beyond bomb. Not overly hot:

I buy the above and below by the case, because I cannot find them in local stores.

Okay so after reading a bunch of these responses I ended up ordering a couple new ones.

Frank's is the only one I had pre-thread. Picked up Tapatio and Gringo Bandito locally. The rest I ordered.

-Tapatio adds a very slight hotness, very mild
-Frank's, same as Tapatio but with a little bit more of a kick
-Gringo Bandito, small bit of hot with a slight smokyness that overtakes the hot taste
-Trappey's Bull, recommended by LouCypher, has a very similar taste to Tabasco but overall better tasting.
-Hot Ones, the sauce from the YouTube channel Goshin posted (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPD_bxCRGpmmeQcbe2kpPaA)
This sauce actually has the best overall taste from any sauce I've had. It is pretty hot overall, but the actual taste of it makes the hotness worth it. My favorite so far.
-313 Foodie Sauce, I saw this one when ordering the Hot Ones and decided to grab it. It is by far the hottest I've tried, but still has a solid taste.

I'm not in a dick measuring contest for who can have the hottest wing, I just really wanted the most flavorful I could get for my meals to spice it up. I'd highly recommend the Hot One's sauce to anyone interested in something new that isn't TOO hot. It has an awesome taste and is actually pretty damn hot. Typically I'm not a fan of super hot things, but this sauce hits right on the border and I like it a lot.

I'll be ordering some more that were thrown around in this thread in a week or two and will post what I think about them as well. Thanks for the replies bitches.

glad someone posted this one

back in school my friend would carry this around in his backpack with toothpicks and dare everyone to try it- they all thought he was nuts. watching people's reactions was awesome

never try it without milk nearby :p just a dab and you're running to the water fountain for relief with ears ringing in a cold sweat. great way to get out of class haha
