I am a staunch supporter of all the amendments, and cannot stand those who advocate a blanket suppression of the 2nd. But to be honest I do not think most gun owners would be against scoped, limited red flag laws that protect the community AND the right to due process.

Much like yelling FIRE in a theater is not protected under the 1st amendment, a similar interpretation for the 2nd is fine. People who are unbalanced should NOT have access to firearms. Develop a reliable process for determining that and I am all for it.

As a veteran, just because I saw action is not a reason to take my guns. If a vet is in treatment, that is not a reason. If a trained professional sees signs, then yes...temporarily secure the firearms. Once determined to not be a threat, give them back. How hard is that?

Problem is the left wants to be the thought police. They want broad authority to restrict the ownership of and types of guns. Nope.

But the left better realize that red flag laws work both ways. Blacks on twitter and FB posting about killing cops while holding guns? Yep, they get reported and LEOs have to act..by law...or else. Some person on twitter makes a comment about harming folks, then it has to be investigated. How long will it take for the ACLU to say that minorities are being targeted and harassed? See, they enjoy a protected status so they can create "kill the cops" pages and nothing happens. Red Flag Laws mean people can get reported for shit like that.

Slippery slope!

For me, it's going to be a firm no, until someone explains the process for getting your guns back. OR, as an example, how does one get off the no fly list?

I'm sorry... was it actually a secret that The United States can spy on you from orbit?

I thought we all knew this already. Did these people seriously think "Google" were the industry leaders in satelite photography?

When NASA went looking for a new telescope to replace the Hubble, ... the NSA gave them.... gave them two brand new ones they didn't need any more that were sitting in their "spy warehouse"... for free. The NSA doesn't use these things to look for life in other galaxies. They point them at Earth.

Past sea-level rise? Scientists find evidence several million years old

A group of scientists studying evidence preserved in cave formations have found that global sea levels were as much as 52 feet higher more than 3 million years ago than they are today.

Their findings, based on an analysis of deposits from Arta Cave on the island of Mallorca, depict a time when Earth was two to three degrees Celsius warmer than in the pre-industrial era, and have implications for the study of current-day sea-level rise.

Sea level rises as a result of melting ice sheets, but scientists have long worked to answer how fast and how much it could rise during a warming period.

Now what?

Bullshit

Illinois governor pardons Army veteran deported to Mexico last year | TheHill

Pritzker granted the pardon to Miguel Perez Jr., who was born in Mexico and came to the U.S. legally as a child. He served two tours in Afghanistan, where he suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Perez was later convicted of a nonviolent drug offense in 2008 and sentenced to 15 years behind bars. He served 7.5 years in prison and was then taken into custody by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement upon his release. He was later deported after former Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) denied a petition for clemency.

Facts

1. He was not given an honorable discharge.

Perez served in the Army from 2001-2004 and was given a general discharge after what the Army termed a "drug infraction." He claims that PTSD incurred during a tour to Afghanistan led him down a path of drugs and alcohol.

2. He claims to have served two tours in Afghanistan, but the dates of his deployment do not bear that claim out.

Perez claims to have served two tours in Afghanistan, the first being from October '02-April '03 and the second from May '03-October '03. According to our own Army veterans, a standard Army deployment is 12 months long, meaning that the dates of his deployments indicate Perez served one tour of duty with a one month "Rest and Relaxation" leave break in the middle. They are certain that a one month turnaround between deployments, for a soldier not in the Special Operations community, is impossible.

3. His conviction was a plea deal, he initially faced much more serious charges.

Perez was ultimately convicted in federal court of posession with the intent to distribute less than 100 grams of cocaine. However the authorities say when he was arrested in 2008 he had a briefcase with multiple pounds of cocaine in his posession. Perez was sentenced to 15 years and served 7-plus years before being released into ICE custody in 2016, had he not been able to plead down the charges, he'd likely still be in the United States, in prison.

4. Perez Jr. was eligible to apply for citizenship long before he joined the Army.

The Perez family moved to the U.S. when Miguel Jr. was 8 years of age. As legal permanent residents a.k.a, a "Green Card" holder, he was first eligible to apply for citizenship in 1994. **CLARIFICATION: As pointed out by a reader, Perez was eligible for citizenship in 1994 but would have needed his parents assistance prior to his turning 18, which would have been in 1998 or 1999.** He claims to have believed that his Army enlistment came with automatic citizenship, something ConnectingVets.com's resident former Army Drill Sergeant Jake Hughes says is very hard to believe. In the end, the fact is that Perez did not apply for citizenship until he had been eligible for over 20 years and already been ordered deported by a federal judge.
