the rule needs to be changed so that if a company owns the infrastructure (phone, cable, fiber, etc.) they can't provide service on that infrastructure.

so if SBC wants to be in the BB business or phone business, they can, but as a common carrier, not as a service/content provider. they can provide all the data lines they like, but they can't be an ISP.

or they just need to get the fuck out of the way. I'm tired of being ranked 13th in BB deployment. we invented the goddamn internet for christ'ssake.

So rule fuck them out of the business they helped create?

If I was SBC I would say "I am taking my phone lines down and going home. " Then we see how well these other providers do.

Naw, that would just fuck the whole country.

Socialism. Let the lazy ass earn as much as the hard worker, because its just how it works.

I hate socialist bars. Bars where all the bartenders split the tips. If you get one lazy ass in there what motivation does the ret of the group have to work hard?

so what fuck the country.

The "country" will learn that this is an open free market and these business's are providing a service...that these people are not entitled to this service.
No where in the bill of rights does it say you need phone lines.

lol i say fuck the country.

socialism creates no incentive to do anything, really

that's only true when people don't feel that "the greater good" is enough motivation to do things. unfourtunately that's most of the time.

Yeah I know. But its kind of a mean thing to do. It could cripple our e-commerce economy and the Federal government would step in immediately so whats the use.

the bells have had a state-sponsored monopoly for ages. as they are they're a socialistic entity because of the regulation surrounding their business. if they don't like having to open their state-protected lines to competition then perhaps they shouldn't be in the business.

only organization I trust with monopolies is my government.

Yep

It also creates no incentive to excel at anything.

"thanks for working twice as hard as bob! Your fellow citizens thank you!"

Yeah, that's hot

yeah im with you there :(
all I want is for the infrastructure to either be owned by the government or by a regulated private entity that can't compete with the public services run on that infrastructure.

then maybe we'll start seeing some progress.
