Tesla has coast to coast coverage with super charge stations now

Submitted by: Goshin @ 09:22 AM | Wednesday, January 29, 2014 | (url: http://watchplayr...)

You can drive from west to east for free if you own a Tesla S
takes 30 minutes to charge 170 miles, so stopping every 3 hours. I guess it'll keep you regular for bathrooms and food.
They plan on having EVEN MORE stations by 2015.

[qoute]The Model S is known to have an operating range of 265 EPA certified miles, 170 of which can be recharged (for free mind you) within 30 minutes of being plugged in. This means that essentially every pit stop that you take on your road trip allows time to recharge and stretch your legs while not costing you anything in gas. Right now, there are 71 stations active and is now possible for you to travel from one coast to the other via the network of charging stations.

By 2015, Tesla plans on having 98% of the United States covered with access to the power stations[/quote]

The stations have solar panels on top, and they supposedly pay for themselves over time by selling the excess to the local utility companies

Supercharger | Tesla Motors
Charge in minutes, for free

Tesla Superchargers allow Model S owners to travel for free between cities along well-traveled highways in North America and Europe. Superchargers provide half a charge in as little as 20 minutes and are strategically placed to allow owners to drive from station to station with minimal stops.

Coverage
North America
Today – 71 stations
Coast-to-coast travel now enabled
2014 – 80% of the US population and parts of Canada
2015 – 98% of the US population and parts of Canada
Europe
Today – 14 stations

Superchargers are located near amenities like roadside diners, cafes, and shopping centers. Road trippers can stop for a quick meal and have their Model S charged when they’re done.

5 years from now it'll be cool to see where the new models of this are at

how is the mechanical reliability of these tesla cars? Any repair / maintenance cost comparison charts out there? I guess being newish they won't have real world 10 year old data or anything, but not counting gas, how does the cost of ownership stack up against typical ford/chevy/etc for these fancy electric powered tesla doodads?
