According to TG Daily, "several industry sources" are now saying that the a very early version of the so-called "Windows 7" OS has already shipped to "key partners," and that Microsoft is now eying the second half of 2009 for a release of the real deal.

Bill Gates, in an interview with Newsweek, also suggested that the next version of Windows would "be more user-centric."[8] When asked to clarify what he meant, Gates said:“That means that right now when you move from one PC to another, you've got to install apps on each one, do upgrades on each one. Moving information between them is very painful. We can use Live Services to know what you're interested in. So even if you drop by a [public] kiosk or somebody else's PC, we can bring down your home page, your files, your fonts, your favorites and those things. So that's kind of the user-centric thing that Live Services can enable. [Also,] in Vista, things got a lot better with [digital] ink and speech, but by the next release there will be a much bigger bet. Students won't need textbooks; they can just use these tablet devices. Parallel computing is pretty important for the next release. We'll make it so that a lot of the high-level graphics will be just built into the operating system. So we've got a pretty good outline.

Glad I got my Vista for free (legally through some weird promotion deal).

I'm tired of hearing people complain about an OS. Switching from windows 98 was just as big a hassle and now people are defending XP instead of sending it to hell like before. Vista works great for most people when they have new hardware that was designed in the vista era. If you buy a new comp you buy it with Vista on it. If you have an old comp you just leave it with XP. Simple as that.I've always monitored my two sisters progress with computing as they are not very knowledgeable but will use it to do some things like media, surf the net and chat and such. One of my sisters got Vista. She's upgrading from XP and after a couple months, so far the computer is still running smoothly. A miracle considering their other computer became fairly bloated and in serious need of some cleaning up within a couple weeks.I've personally introduced someone to Vista and have seen how it is met with initial woe and distaste but with time becomes quite tolerable. =)

Vista good? Microsoft disagrees! You could have spent $300 on lottery tickets and came out better than getting Vista.

Its basically going to be Vista completed. Same thing they did with windows 2000, then they released XP. Vista is quite a screw up for MS.

If not for this quote, I would be thinking that this might be a server platform.Seems not, though. But he could be talking about the OS in development for five years down the road just as well, and the next gen OS being nothing more than rampant rumors of bullshit from naysayers and MS-hating *nix hockers.

And the only people who cried about going from 98 to xp were the ignorant idiots. I was day 1 XP user and never had a problem. It's still my favorite OS of all time.

This is B.S. ofn. enGadget released an article that "Windows 7" is planned for 2011.

I had no problem going from 98 to 2k. I did not like going from 2k to XP very much. Vista is shit. There is nothing more that needs saying. I legally own a copy of Vista Ultimate and am ashamed that I payed money for it.
