upk file extracting and compiling?

I was wondering if someone could link me to a few tools that I could use to do this. I'd like to start messing with a few crosshairs for Tribes ascend.
 
i'd assume you'd have to make the CRC match or else t;a will patch it back to standard

i put in a freakin' splash screen replacement (omg hax) and it patched it out as a bad file
